Lucil Aguada-Ly

Brisbane.
Manila.

Lucil in our Sagingginging Dress.

Saging meaning Banana in Filipino.

We collaborated on a version of an East meets West dress.

The vision is a cross between modern sensibilities and quirkiness, age-old traditions, and wearing your cultural heritage on your sleeve-literally.

A dress that's a nod to the tropical Philippines but also very outward looking and very now even a year later.

The focal point of the dress is its texture. We started with hand-drawn banana leaf pattern embroidery on delicate paper-thin bubble organza with silk organza organza overlay. I envisioned a dress that plays on different levels of sheerness to create something that looks visually dynamic despite being mono-color.

To complete the dress, our artisan took 3 weeks to finish the embroidery.

The dress is cut with one shoulder stylized Filipiniana sleeve and a modernized version of a 19th-century pannier at the hips to create an interesting volume on the skirt.

Our bridal philosophy anchors itself on weaving dreams and stories into tactile works of art that our brides can look back on for years to come as part of their core memories.

Thoughtful. Inspired. One of a kind.
