The photos!!! I’m swooning over how GORG these photos are!
They’re amazing! Honestly, this set of wedding photos felt like it represents me the most as a designer. It’s cool, it’s edgy, but it still feels intimate and personal—props to the fantastic guys at Oak St. Studios for the job well done.
Two years in the making, Angelica’s wedding and dress heavily feature the different things she and her husband loved and the common interest that brought them together- especially their love for anything Star Wars. This wedding is them front and center.
I met Angelica before the pandemic. She wasn’t sure what she wanted then because, unlike most girls, she doesn’t get excited over dresses. She did however specify she wants something easy to move in and goes well with her sneakers, oh, and pockets. Ideally, the dress should embody something that celebrates their personalities but is not too nerdy lol.
We were going in a different but vague direction then but as with most cases, the pandemic changed our plans. She came back to me earlier this year armed with a more concrete vision of what she wanted or at least a base we can build on and better visuals of the wedding she envisioned, which includes an amazing venue, an additional art deco theme that sprung from the embroidery of her husband’s barong tagalog ( traditional Filipino formal attire made of pineapple silk).
The dress she showed us is a pretty classic V-neck halter kinda like the iconic chiffon-esque dress Marily Monroe wore with some beading at the back; she was initially almost resigned to the fact that it doesn’t have to be too literal Star Wars. Still, I’m adamant about going a slightly more literal route and infusing some element of Star Wars into the dress.
The breakthrough came two months prior to her wedding when I finally had my aha moment of embroidering these tiny little X Wings into her dress. I was already toying with the idea for about a month I was just not sure how I would do it. I just knew I REALLY wanted spaceships shooting lasers at the back of her dress.
The resulting embroidery is subtle enough that anyone not privy to the theme would not think twice about it and simply think it’s part of the design of the dress, but not so subtle enough that anyone close to her can immediately point out the not-so-Easter Egg we included in her dress.
The dress quickly became one of my favorites. It captured so much of what I personally envisioned our studio to be especially after taking a two-year pause and having the time to reassess the direction I truly wanted for our brand.
